Tenth grade.......Tuesday mornings and.........Math

Beep!!Beep!!goes the alarm as I struggle to find it beside my bed.The alarm reads 4:45 a.m.,Tuesday."What the !@##$!!.It aint even time for the rooster to wake up".But as I am about to restart my slumber from the point I left it,I notice a shadowy figure coming towards me.Oh no!!Its mom and that could mean only one thing its time for me to wake up at this most god forsaken hour.I struggle to find my way towards the bathroom. After having brushed my teeth and answered nature's call I pack my bag and get into the car.You might be wondering where I am heading to at this hour. There is no cause for neither worry nor concern because I could answer your question. My destination is the 'tuition centre' located in one of the most remote parts of the city and you would again wonder why i am going there.Well, the answer is simple because I am a tenth grader and according to the trend of the past few years, this is the year where you are supposed to mug up all that is taught at school and for an extra edge, go for 'tuitions' and also spend your free time burying yourself under a pile of books, assignments etc.The drive to the 'tuition centre' takes hardly fifteen minutes inspite of the 'tuition centre' being approximiately ten kilometres away as the roads bear no sign of life as 98% of the city's population is enjoying their slumber under their blankets hugging their favourite pillows. The rest 2% of the population consists of people who endure the same fate as me.As I stroll up the lane leading to the 'tuition centre' which more or resembles a mansion than a place of learning,I am greeted by one of my friends who reminds me that an assignment is due today.Thankfully,I find my assignment book in my so called 'school bag'(which contains just two books,my football boots and an extra t-shirt).The rest was er...well.....inexplicable'.After having seated myself beside my friend who was a 'wannabee singer',his songs proved to be the lullaby for my sleep and the damp morning coupled with the cool breeze helped me fall into the state of trance which was at times interrupted by the highly vociferous 'tuition master'.

Well......you can't possibly while away the two hours at the horrid place by just sleeping. So,I do spot some interesting stuff happening around me (when I am not sleeping that is). These incidents could be broadly classified into various types depending upon the various people involved in it.

First,we have the bujis who occupy the first row of the class and their conversations are so complicated that it is difficult for the average guy to get a grip what they are talking about.

This group comprises of Sid,Jim,Amb,Arv etc. These guys are the first ones to solve a problem even if it is a really brain raking one. This enthusiasm of theirs prove to be a blessing for the other average guys(including me) as they are able to reproduce on their own books what the so-called bujis had produced on theirs due to their hardwork and perseverance(wonder what that is).

While the bujis are busy solving what the value of sin18 is, I spot Spam and Kathi exchanging bits of paper with the girls sitting in the other row. This happens only when the tuition master gets out of the classroom to take in some of the fresh air blowing outside. While this exchange of t paper bits is taking place I notice the wannabe singer turning his head around(in the most inconspicuous manner not to catch the attention of anyone)to catch a glimpse of the girl on whom he has a secret(it didn't remain a secret for long) crush. Not to disappoint him I too pretend as if i hadn't seen him.Meanwhile the guy sitting beside me(and who has been my friend for the past twelve years)and who has been snoring for a while now suddenly wakes up (as if someone had poked his ass)from his slumber and starts singing! As he doesn't know the proper lyrics of the song, the singing finally turns into more or less a humming of the tune and eventually leads to the 'beating'(as in tapping his hands on the desk)of the beat of the song.I later go on to figure out that the song which he was trying(in vain) to sing, hum or whatever was a melodious hit from the 1990's.But his manner of singing prompted me to think that it was some song belonging to the hip-hop genre!

One and a half gruelling hours, six 'melodious' classics, many more paper bits exchanged and twelve mind-boggling problems later, the tuition master gleefully announces "Aah yes,BOYS!"signalling the end of the day's class(as well as the snores of a couple of guys who were catching upon some lost sleep). Then we are off to spend another day in 'Paradise', the place we love the most, our second home, our alma mater, LOYOLA!
